The Oregonian -- Thursday, December 2, 1965

Headline: Woman, Baby Die in Car Crash

Holiday tragedy struck Hood River families when a 62 year old woman and her tiny granddaughter died in a traffic crash south of Portland as they were on their way to a Thanksgiving visit.

Jessie Marie Gregory, Rt. 1, Box 865, Hood River, and Annette Marie Moore, 10 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Moore of Rt. 1, Box 1186, Hood River, both lost their lives in a crash just after dark on November 24th.

They were passengers in a car traveling south on Interstate 5 some 16 miles south of Portland when their car collided with a pick up truck, then with another car.

Also injured were Otto M. Gregory of Hood River and Mrs. Arliss Moore, the infant's mother. Their car was headed toward Toledo where they planned to spend Thanksgiving.

A truck and trailer had flipped over in the northbound lane of the divided freeway and it was apparently the distraction which led to a series of some 18 collisions on that same stretch of freeway, including the fatal crash.

Services for the two accident victims were held at 2PM on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Home with John Gest officiating. Burial for both was in the Parkdale Cemetery.

Surviving the baby are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Moore of Hood River, her grandfather, Otto, of Hood River, and a grandmother, Mrs. Alto Moore of Seattle, WA

Mrs. Gregory's survivors besides her husband are three sons, Willis Gregory of Cascade Locks, Donald of Mosier, and David in the Navy; four daughters, Wanda Stevens of the Dalles, Delores Robenson of Toledo, Patsy O'Zey of Seattle, and Joyce Aslin of Toledo; three brothers, Cecil and Walter Brock, both of Hood River, and Morris Brock of Baker; one sister, Bessie Gregory of Portland, and 19 grandchildren.

A member of the Christian church, Mrs. Gregory had lived in Hood River a year.
